MY TRANSFORMATION
Highschool Athletics
I've always been an active individual. During my early school years, I participated in various sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and field hockey. When I reached high school, my focus shifted towards competitive volleyball and soccer. It was during my later high school years that I was introduced to stretching, mobility, and strength conditioning. Additionally, my coach focused on educating us about the benefits of meditation, breathwork, and visualization. Before attending UVIC, I always maintained a healthy lifestyle, getting a full 8 hours of sleep, rarely indulging in alcohol, eating nutritious meals, and experiencing minimal stress. However, once I left home at the age of 18, my life took a different turn…
University Transition
After high school, I continued to stay active by going to the gym, playing recreational soccer, volleyball, and softball. However, I found myself partying and drinking regularly, even on weekdays. My sleep patterns were erratic, I ate university cafeteria food and indulged in late-night snacks after nights out. I was constantly surrounded by people, leaving me with little time for personal reflection, journaling, prayer, or simply being alone. Academic stress added to my challenges, as I had always needed to work hard for my grades. My first year of university was an eye-opening experience,I gained what is often referred to as the "freshman 15” and when I returned home in the summer I remember my mother noticed the change in me, not only physically but completely burnt out.
In the following years, I gradually began to prioritize fitness, healthy eating, sleep, rest, self-care, my faith and overall well-being. In my second year, I started going to the gym, beginning with cardio workouts, mainly on the upper level. As time passed, I learned more about fitness and nutrition, eventually progressing to the main floor where usually 90% of the guys trained. Looking back, I realized that my early gym routines were not as effective as they could have been. Nevertheless, it was during this period that I truly began to take fitness and nutrition seriously. I aimed to train five times a week while also participating in soccer and volleyball on weeknights.
COVID 19…
Just as I was getting into a routine, COVID-19 hit, and the world shut down. I moved back home and completed my studies online, as my family wanted me close. During this time, my athlete younger brother trained at home, meal-prepped, and took specific supplements. I observed his regimen with great curiosity, wanting to understand the science behind fitness and nutrition.
My Transformation!
A friend introduced me to a fitness coach. At the time, investing in a coach was a significant commitment for me as I was still a student, but I was eager to progress further in my fitness journey. I embarked on a 12-week program with him, which eventually extended to over a year. It turned out to be the best investment I had ever made. He not only educated and supported me but also challenged me, fundamentally transforming the way I lived and viewed my life.
After a year of disciplined training and a diet rich in high-quality protein, healthy carbs and fats, I began to feel significant changes in my body, appearance, and self-confidence. Following my time with my coach, I designed my own workout programs and continued to delve into the science behind fitness and nutrition. During this period, I decided to pursue a certification in personal training and nutrition for my own knowledge and understanding. I achieved certification through ISSA and am proud to say that I am now a certified fitness coach. Additionally, I chose to work with another coach, Onna, for six months, recognizing that continuous learning and growth are essential.
Since February 2023, I have adopted a disciplined routine that includes waking up at 4 am for my morning routine, working out at 6 am before starting my day, and going to bed by 8 pm each night. I reserve alcohol consumption for special occasions and am selective about how I spend my time, recognizing that time is a precious resource. If you had told me I would be here three or four years ago, I would have laughed.
So, where am I now?
I am passionate about helping women build habits that lead to lasting and transformative change. My goal is to educate, empower, and encourage the women I work with, equipping them with the tools to create lasting change in their lives. Over the past three months, I have had the privilege of working with four dedicated clients. When I think about why I decided to become a coach is really just because I want to provide women with the same life-changing experiences I have been blessed to have. The strength, mental clarity, confidence, and overall happiness that result from this journey are worth the investment.
